The Biomuseo Reopens its Doors

Published by Michael Flora On July 20, 2021

Biomuseo is a museum dedicated to Panama’s natural history. Their isthmus was created relatively recently in geologic time. Also, it has had a significant impact on the Western Hemisphere’s environment. And now, again, you can visit it in Panama City, Panama. The museum’s design was conceived in 1999, and it opened on October 2, 2014. It’s also significant for Panama real estate since it attracts cultured people. The Biomuseo celebrates Panama’s natural and cultural past, focusing on humans’ role in the twenty-first century. Its galleries depict how the rise of Panama’s isthmus transformed the world. The great news is that the Biomuseo reopens its doors for the public!

The Biomuseo reopens

Not even the Biomuseo was immune to the effects of the ongoing pandemic. Unfortunately, it had to be closed for quite a while. The fact that the Biomuseo is reopening gives us an excellent reason for celebration. Additionally, learning that the Biomuseo is reopening is a great reason to visit Panama.  Aside from Panama condos and Panama homes, that is, which will make you move here permanently.

Inside the Biomuseo

The reopened Biomuseo contains eight galleries for its permanent exhibits. Each is created by Bruce Mau Design in a different order. Edwina von Gal created the public atrium, a room for temporary exhibitions, a gift shop, a coffee shop, and external exhibits in a botanical garden. These are among the museum’s features.

Five of Biomuseo’s eight galleries opened to the public on October 2, 2014. The importance of Panama and its natural and cultural evolution is enormous. You can see it in the first section of the story. Here are some of the galleries you can explore:

  • Gallery of Biodiversity

The first gallery provides an overview of Panama’s incredible natural heritage. This is one of the fan favorites, and people cannot wait to see it since the Biomuseo reopened.

  • Panamarama

A three-level projection space with ten screens immerses visitors in a display of sound and sight featuring the natural wonders of Panama.

  • Building the Bridge

Three million years ago, Panama sprung from the sea. The inner forces of the Earth produced The Isthmus of Panama. Three 14-meter-high rock formations represent them. They provide a tactile interaction with the geological world.

  • Worlds Collide

When the Isthmus of Panama collapsed, there was a massive exchange of species between North and South America. A stampede of animal sculptures from all types, shapes, and sizes depicts the story of this once-in-a-lifetime natural occurrence.

  • The Human Path

There are 16 columns in a partially open space. They present information regarding the relationships between human activities and Panama’s natural sceneries across time.

Additional facts about the Biomuseo

  • Gehry’s first and only work in Latin America is the Biomuseo.
  • The structure has a total exhibition space of nearly 43,000 square feet.
  • Gehry’s signature style includes uneven, rippling, slanted roof panels that mirror the surrounding landscape’s color and diversity while ensuring visibility from afar.
  • The shape of the museum alludes to the emergence of Panama’s isthmus from the sea, uniting the continents of South and North America and forever altering ocean currents, climate, and biodiversity.
  • The location offers unobstructed views of Panama City across the sea.
  • To support the many airy canopies, Gehry’s interior structural design evokes nature, with concrete column “trees” sprouting metal “branches.”
  • The exterior finishes are plastered over concrete, which is a traditional Panamanian construction technique.
  • Due to several technical and financial challenges, the project took over ten years to complete.

Besides the museum, there are other reasons to visit Panama City

Panama is full of national parks and rainforests. The country’s breathtakingly rich and magnificent natural surroundings contribute to its status as a must-see trip. Its proximity to a number of these parks and rainforests makes Panama City very attractive to visitors and new residents. In addition, real estate Panama offers rentals that you can easily find and stay in without wasting time or money. You can get by with the metro line, which is both a practical and nice way to see the surroundings.

Moving to Panama City

Once people hear that the Biomuseo has reopened, many will visit it alongside other Panama attractions. Of course, if you fall in love with Panama City during your visit, you can always make your stay permanent. As you can see, there are many different things to love in this place. And the experts from easymovekw.com say that quite a few of their clients decided to move here after a single visit.

Life in Panama City

Living in Panama has several positive aspects. Most people who have lived in this tropical place for a while can rattle off a long list of things they like about it. Since it’s such a great place to live, you’ll quickly get used to living in Panama. However, if you need any guidance, you’ll be happy to know that the locals are glad to help with anything that’s bothering you.

Do you plan to visit Biomuseo?

The news that the Biomuseo reopens has made a lot of people excited to visit. Nevertheless, you need to be familiar with some potential difficulties due to the pandemic. Remember that the capacity is still at 50%. However, Friends of the museum will have priority when entering. All visitors have to wear a mask while in the museum and even in the park. The great news is that you can listen to their audio tutorial on your phone while you visit. To take advantage of this feature, remember to bring your headphones.
